Being Trigger-Free

Where I Stand’s Purple Project is designed to raise awareness, hope, understanding, and support in the face of battling the life-threatening mental illnesses that fall under one (or more) of the categories of an eating disorder.

Darkness vs. Light

In everything that we do in life – we will make choices, regarding our actions, attitudes, beliefs and values. Being trigger-free is not about ignoring the dark; it’s about choosing to pursue light. I don’t have to tell you all that eating disorders are dark (from emotional turmoil to physical demise) but I am going to tell you that it is our choice to either spread one or the other.

We choose light.

Choosing light isn’t easy (is it ever?). There are a lot of decisions to be made and grey areas examined but let me tell you this: it’s worth the fight, the exhaustion, the tears, the pain (it’s worth it all) because light spreads and with more light everything gets a little brighter.

What this means for the Purple Project:

WIS Hand A_FotorLizzie, Natalie and I  have made it our mission in everything that we do, say, or support through our Purple Project campaign in the pursuit light and hope. To do this we have to make some hard decisions, some judgment calls and guidelines to protect the event, the community, and your recovery. We are monitoring the purple project based on: individuals focus (darkness or light), description of eating disorders behaviors, numbers, or images that glorify the darkness (our eating disorders) in any way.

Decide for yourself.

We’re all different. Some of us see darkness where others see light. Lizzie, Natalie, and I while we are doing our best, cannot monitor every single thing and please everyone at the same time. But our message for you is that if the purple project is unhealthy, triggering, or dark to you – don’t follow it – actually block it. YOUR recovery comes above all else and that is something that only you can decide.

To close I want to leave you with something that I clung to during my own recovery process.

Ephesians 5:8 – 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

Purple Love,
Erin Casey
